Did you know that according to a text reportedly translated around 1000AD, in the week preceding Lent it was custom for Christians to confess their sins? Even now it’s a time, Catholics should spend in examining their conscience and reflecting on areas where spiritual growth is needed as they prepare for the penitential season of Lent.
Also traditionally, pancakes were prepared and enjoyed on this day, because in so doing a family depleted their eggs, milk, butter, and fat which were part of the Lenten fast. At this time, some areas of the Church abstained from all forms of meat and animal products, while others made exceptions for food like fish.
After Tuesday’s 9am Mass, Fr Nathan will be cooking up pancakes in the Ned Kenny Centre. You are most welcome to stay and partake.
